FUCKING HELL
I tried... I tried sooooooo hard tonight to have a good time.

Only to discover, that my FUCKING CAR was broken into at MEAT.

Right in the same area that someone had their car broken into last Monday at Deathguild. There is someone obviously fucking with cars, and I think honestly it's someone who frequents DG/and related events. I have a strong idea of who it is, but no concrete evidence to prove.

Either way, I'll be without my car for a week since I have a giant foot print from someone kicking the door in along with my window being broken.

Overall, I'm majorly pissed, more so since I felt alone in the whole situation and will be missing out in school cause of it. Goodbye $12,000 in tuition. FUCK YOU!

omg lame!
That is so fucked up! The area around 11th street is really shady and sketchy. It's pretty distressing to think that someone from the club scene would prey on others like that. ew.

Where were you parked?

Re: omg lame!
I was parked pretty close to the corner of 11th and Harrison Street. I have to admit, someone did get their car broken into there the other week too, but once again... all that happened was their window smashed in and nothing taken. Same in my case (except for my car door being kicked in too)

You have got to be fucking kidding me. Do you think it's an actual club goer, or just someone who hates the general DG crowd? And not only that but with all the shit that the DNA has happening with the Alcohol and Beverage Commission this will only help prove their case. Coincidence?
megabytemike[info]megabytemike on April 24th, 2009 05:50 pm (UTC)
I feel like it could be a club goer, but there is no real way I can prove this other than the "convenient," absence they made at the club. Also, I didn't get to the club until 12:10-ish.

I don't think this necessarily will be used against the DNA for any of their legal happenings, or by the ABC seeing as it's not really related. Also seeing how I can't prove that it was who I think it may be, its pretty much just "someone smashing a car window and not stealing a thing."

Why is your car out of commission for a whole week? Did the damage make it undriveable? And is there no public transport that will get you to/from school when you need to go?

Also: SUCK! I'm sorry, that is hugely annoying and costly and obnoxious :(

Mostly for body work, in addition to my window being bashed in, there is some sort of kick/punch mark on the side of my car. Thus, body work will be needed.

Years ago when I had my Tahoe broken into, it took roughly a week for them to fix it as well.

Yeah.... I keep hearing about this shit happening in SF; part of why I've scaled down to mostly just Santa Cruz (getting there early = usually parking in front, where the bouncer watches over all). I miss the Glas Kat's awesome watched-over parking lot. Ah well.

I'm sorry this happened to you :( still, can't you get a rental car for the week? With my insurance (State Farm) I get rental cars for like $12/day... Well worth it, esp. If it means saving $12K in tuition.

megabytemike[info]megabytemike on April 24th, 2009 10:33 pm (UTC)
Well, it's not necessarily a total loss in $12k of tuition. Just a partial one. If I miss class a certain amount of days (more than 15% contact hours), it's an auto-fail, thus a term lost.

Second problem, I haven't heard back from GEICO yet, other than they received my claim.

Third, I'm not old enough to rent a car, but I do have access to my parents.

Basically, the thing that really just upsets me is that my classes are usually scheduled during daily business hours, so I basically can't get the time off to deal with this stuff (take it to glass shop, take the car to the body shop, etc, etc).

While my parents could do this too, they have jobs as well. So basically, I'm without my car for a week since it has to be done over a long period of time, and not taken care of right away.

Today, basically consists of me skipping my 3-6 class waiting for GEICO to process my claim so I know what to do next. I obviously can't go to school with my car since the window is smashed out.

Why are you not old enough to rent a car? I just called Enterprise in Campbell who says you'd have to pay a younger driver fee of $7.50/day if you rent a car for a week, $12/day if less than that- they have 3 categories: ago 18-20, 21-24, and 25+. He says the same rules apply in Oakland.

I know you've got all this mess to deal with, but your #1 priority really should be school. Why not just call these places between classes? Or turn your phone on vibrate, explain the mess to the instructors, & if they call during class, go outside & talk.

I understand missing a day, if only out of pure frustration/anger, but a whole week? I think you can very realistically get around that. & if you do miss the whole week, you're going to cause yourself a lot more hurt to happen in the future.

I don't think I'll be missing school for a whole week, but I'll without my car.

I got all the arrangements taken care of now, but I'm still just waiting to hear back from geico on getting my car taken care of.
megabytemike[info]megabytemike on April 24th, 2009 11:35 pm (UTC)
Btw, thanks for calling and caring. Greatly appreciated.

Of course. I've never had my car broken into, but I know how that shit can mess up your whole life/stress you out like a crazy person & with 10,000 phone calls to make, all of which put you on hold, I figured I'd make a call for you for some basic info.

This is the reason I don't think I'll ever drive anything but a diesel; my old car (POS Mercury Sable) broke down a billion times while I drove it in college, & in my opinion there's little worse (to our pampered, spoiled ass society) than a car breaking down on you. Suddenly, your primary transportation's gone; WTF do you do!? FREAK THE FUCK OUT. To me, a car breaking down on the freeway is HELL. I freak out over waiting for the tow truck, the rental car mess, the expense of it all, & everything else. My car? Never broken down on me. Ever, in almost 4 years. Most reliable car I know of. I get all its regular maintenance (it also helps having a mechanic for a boyfriend) & the thing still drives like new; it's a 2001 (same as Grey's). So yeah, here's me advertising VWs. THAT does you a lot of good (sorry, I adore my car & cannot help myself sometimes).

Anyway, I really hope this mess clears up soon & you can get back on track with your life. HUGS!!
megabytemike[info]megabytemike on April 26th, 2009 04:38 am (UTC)
Well, in all honesty my VW has never broke down either and I love it to bits. You can't really preventing someone breaking into a car by driving a different type. People will break into it no matter what.

So, I guess its just more of a headache that, couldn't he just have broken the window and left the car door alone? It would have taken less time.

GEICO did finally call, they have to take a look at it on Tuesday, then decide what to do. $100 deductible tho, so... not too bad -- depending on what they plan on covering.
Miss Stats[info]audreystats on April 26th, 2009 07:51 am (UTC)
Nope, no matter what kind of car you drive, no one's immune to that kind of crap. Some are more prone than others though to certain breakins; Jeep Cherokees & Toyota Camrys topped the list, statistically, last I read. It helps mine has a little blinking red light that lets them know the alarm is on... though if nothing else, Grey's experience (he drives the exact same car as mine (2001 VW Golf TDI) just blue instead of silver. No one's immune.

Plus the door being kicked in with the window? Someone was insane. Honestly, I wouldn't put it past a drunken bastard though; I remember walking toward a club once & watching this drunk hobo bastard slapping the hoods of every car he walked by as he went down the street; he didn't break anything to my knowledge, but I didn't want him touching my car (thankfully I'd parked in a garage that night)!!

Plus Graham told me the lovely story of having just gotten his Jag a few years back, parked it at the beach, & returned to see dents & to-the-paint scratches from dog claws all over his hood.

People are pigs. Assholic, stupid pigs. I've been lucky so far (despite the jerk who scratched up my bumper pulling out of the spot besides me in AZ & not leaving a note, & the jerks (kids, I assume) who egged my car & scratched up the clear coat, etc). I'm sure my day will come... hence why I keep good insurance (renters that extends to my car, & full-coverage). Meh... can't plan for everything, but we all do what we can.
